Harry Potter Source Evaluation

https://www.hypable.com/j-k-rowling-discusses-why-harrys-eyes-didnt-have-to-be-green-cutting-a-scene-from-alfonsos-prisoner-script/ When was it published?: 8th November 2011 What I learned from it?: When comparing how accurate the characters are in the novel to the actors who played them on screen, I learned that they had to scrap the idea that Harry had his mother's green eyes due to the fact that Daniel Radcliffe was majorly allergic to the green contact lenses. This led to them changing Lily Potter's eyes to blue as well in order to maintain the motif.  Why was it created?: It was created to share a conversation between J.K Rowling and Daniel Radcliffe about their experiences on the Harry Potter set and their opinions on the world that had been created. It was published a little after the release of the final movie, which had exclusive interviews on the DVDs when they were available to buy in stores.  How reliable is it?: It is reliable because it is a typed out ve...

Case Study - Harry Potter Franchise

The Harry Potter franchise is one of the biggest and highest grossing movie franchises of all time. It has been extremely successful in working off the original novels and turning them into a delightful on screen set of movies, as well as attractions and exhibitions all across the globe.   There are seven original Harry Potter novels written by J.K Rowling:  Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - June 1997 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - July 1998 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - July 1999 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - July 2000 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - June 2003 Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - July 2005 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - July 2007 Although there were seven books, Warner Brothers split the last book, The Deathly Hallows into a part one and part two, resulting in 8 films being released between 2001 and 2011.  My opinion before the research: Controversially, I watched the movies before I r...

Case Study - Franchise Introduction

A movie franchise  is  a collection of related films in succession that share the same fictional universe, or are marketed as a series .  Many book series were being made into films, especially in the early 2000s where many book to film adaptations hit the big screen and created a worldwide craze. By turning each individual book into a film, it allowed for most of the story line to be incorporated without missing out crucial aspects.  5 franchises I have thought about reviewing:  Harry Potter by J.K Rowling  7 books made into 8 films  The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 3 books and 4 films The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer 5 books made into 5 books  The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien  3 books made into 3 films  The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis  7 books, only three of them made into films Many franchises have managed to bring in millions, if not billions of pounds. By using the initial novels, authors and film companies ...

Project Management - End of November 2021

I have completed my Handmaid's Tale case study and recorded all the relevant research in my blog post. I did a mix of primary research by comparing the book and the series myself. Studying The Handmaid's Tale in English Literature has given me a good insight into the novel, and I have used this knowledge to validate my comparisons.  I made comparisons with the cast and the original characters, in order to see how well they were portrayed on screen. I also identified positive and negative differences to evaluate whether the series has ruined literature or enhanced it. Since many of the topics in The Handmaid's Tale are still relevant issues, I was able to see how the story has influenced modern day social change. For example, many people in America have been dressing up as handmaids to protest against oppressive laws, particularly under Trump's government.  As I went along, I evaluated all my sources for my research, including when I accessed them, why they were useful, ...

The Handmaid's Tale Source Evaluation

https://time.com/4759957/handmaids-tale-book-vs-show-differences/ When was it published?: May 1st 2017  What I learned from it: I learned of many of the differences between The Handmaid's Tale series and the book. I was able to evaluate these difference to decide whether they were positive and enhanced the original storyline, or whether they had a negative effect when implemented onto the screen. It also told me some of the producer's intentions when he made these changes which were useful for gaining insight as to why these differences could be seen as good or not.  Why was it published?: It was published to inform people about the differences between the TV series and the book, but also the publicise the release of the new Hulu series. For people who haven't read the book, it could persuade them to read the book, or alternatively vice versa.  How reliable was it?: Time Magazine is a leading source of information regarding entertainment, politics, business and science...

Case Study The Handmaid's Tale

This week I read and started watching season 1 of The Handmaid's Tale. Although there are now 4 seasons, season 1 is the only one that is applicable to the book itself. The other series continue the story the way the director believe it could go. There are 10 episodes in the first series, which consists of over just over 10 hours of screen time.  Handmaid's Tale Trailer Series 1 My Opinion The Handmaid's Tale is a serious book which covers issues surrounding women's right, reproduction and the overwhelming power of the fictional state called Gilead. It warns of societal problems that could possibly arise in the future, setting them out in a clear way to steer society away from regressing into a dystopian land. I think the series is an excellent representation of the book because it adds further detail but also highlights all the crucial issues written about by Margaret Atwood.  How accurate are the actors to the characters? Offred The protagonist of the novel is called ...
