I have completed my Little Women case study, following the guidelines I set out. I was able to learn about how accurate the casting was to the original characters, how famous dialogues from the novel were included in the movie, and other relevant comparative factors. This case study was very useful into seeing how some film adaptations don't ruin literature as Little Women has been very successful. Particularly the 2019 adaptation by Greta Gerwig which received extremely high ratings.  I have started discussing which series I want to evaluate for my second case study. The top choice so far is The Handmaid's Tale as there is so many things I can discuss, including its impact on contemporary society. I want to finish this by the middle of November so I can start my Harry Potter case study which I plan to spend a bit more time on due to the size of the franchise.  My time management has remained good up to now, I have stuck to most of my deadlines and managed to update on a regul...

One interesting alternative way companies sometimes choose to turn literature into video is by creating a series. Often, TV series are able to have more detail and not cut out things that wouldn't be able to fit into a two hour film. Comparisons There are many things that would make a good book to film hit, and these are the things I will compare for each case study.  How accurate the cast are to the characters? How close the plot is to the original story? Any other differences or similarities that improved or ruined the story?  This week I read Little Women and watched the 2019 Little Women film.  Little Women 2019 Trailer The Little Women novel is set in two parts: 1 and 2. In this time there is a 7 year gap where the sisters grow and progress in their lives.  My opinion: In my opinion, I do not believe that the classical book of Little Women was ruined in the 2019 film. I thought the film was an excellent representation of the book, since they stuck to the original, familiar story line whilst also mixing flicking between Part 1 and Part 2 of the book frequently throughout the film. The stark contrast of this 7 year gap between the parts was much more evident in the film since the audience were transported between the two time periods many times, side by side. Therefore, I think it had more of an impact on the viewer compared to the book where you see the girls grow up slowly and in chronological order.  How close are the cast to the characters?     Meg March   Me...

It is sometimes difficult to define a piece of literature as a 'classic', since it is often subjective to the reader. Books that are regarded valuable and timeless by some may be shunned by others. The four books I have selected have all previously been considered as one of the greats throughout history, and have been included in university and other educational studies all around the world.  Currently, I have four classics in mind which I want to evaluate, however I am only going to pick one of them so that the workload remains manageable alongside my other case studies from different areas of literature.  My main target for my EPQ is to answer the big question:        Are books ruined when they are taken to the TV or film screen? Throughout my life, I have heard and seen a lot of opposing arguments in response to this question, so I am setting myself the task to see if books are generally better when transformed into visual entertainment, or whether they should be left as they were created on paper. Although this topic may be slightly opinion based, I will remain as neutral as possible, and use the reviews of critics, the general public and the winning of awards to come to my conclusion.
